Portrait of a filly that was destined for greatness ...

Starlite Originals, has been granted an exclusive license to produce an “officially authorized” sculpture of racehorse legend, Ruffian. The license was obtained through Commemorative Derby Promotions, representing Ruffian's owner Stuart Janney. The brilliant but ill-fated Ruffian was the undefeated champion filly of 1974 and 1975 before tragically breaking down during a much anticipated match race against that year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Foolish Pleasure.

Bred and raced by Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Janney's Locust Hill Farm, Ruffian broke the track record the first time she raced, winning by 13 lengths after bursting from the gate “like a demon.” Her style dubbed her Dark Lightning! and she went on to win a total of 10 races, including the 1975 Filly Triple Crown, setting several track records in the process.

A new creation from the combined talent of Kitty Cantrell and Caroline Boydston. Release expected late 2006. Ruffian is the first of four revered champion racehorses to be announced for the 2006 debut of Starlite's Legends of Racing Series. As part of Starlite's popular Equine Collection, which was introduced in 2005, the Legends of Racing Series will feature the greatest equine athletes to grace the "Sport of Kings.”
